Before the Surgery

Please carefully review the following instructions and follow them precisely:

  • Avoid taking any medication 15 days before the surgery, especially those containing acetylsalicylic acid such as Aspirin, Aspirineta, Alka Seltzer, Advil, Ibuprofen, or any other medication that affects blood clotting.
  • Discontinue natural supplements 15 days before surgery, including Omega 3, Ginkgo Biloba, Ginger, Chia Seeds, Garlic capsules, and Vitamin E.
  • Continue taking medication for high blood pressure, except on the day of surgery.
  • You may take thyroid medication, even on the day of surgery, with a small sip of water.
  • If you suffer from allergies, you can take your allergy medication, including the day before surgery. If you have a history of asthma, bring your inhaler to the surgery.
  • For pain relief, you may take Acetaminophen.
  • If you are allergic to any medication or substance, inform the nursing staff, anesthesiologist, and Dr. Alvarado before the surgery.
  • Stop smoking entirely one month before surgery. Smoking is the greatest enemy of plastic surgery as it impairs tissue circulation, increasing the risk of complications.
  • If you experience pain or burning during urination, frequent urination, or other symptoms such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, vomiting, skin rashes, inform Dr. Alvarado or the anesthesiologist.
  • If you show signs of a cold such as general malaise, headache, nasal discharge, sore throat, or cough, notify Dr. Giovanny Alvarado or the anesthesiologist in advance.
  • Do not shave the surgical area on the day of the surgery or days prior. Shaving will be done by our team if necessary. Shaving shortly before surgery increases the risk of infection.
  • On the day before surgery, you may eat until 8:00 p.m. and consume non-dairy liquids until 10:00 p.m. After this time, do not eat or drink anything, including water, until your surgery.
  • On the day of surgery, shower using ISODINE foam, applying it to your entire body for 5 minutes before rinsing it off in the shower.
  • Remove nail polish from your hands and feet, and avoid wearing makeup, jewelry, or valuable items. Remove contact lenses, piercings, and earrings beforehand.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that is loose-fitting, such as pajamas, sweatpants, or button-front tops. Avoid jeans, tight shirts, or high heels.
  • Arrive at the clinic with one or two adult companions (no minors). Be at the clinic one hour before surgery to allow enough time to complete the admission documents.
  • Read and fill out the surgical consent forms the day before surgery. Ask Dr. Giovanny Alvarado for clarification if you have any questions about the consent information.
  • Review the patient rights and responsibilities document and ask for clarification on any doubts.
