Recommendations for Abdominoplasty

  • The first two nights, you must sleep in a semi-seated position with two pillows behind your back and a small pillow under your knees.
  • Do not wear the compression garment until instructed by Dr. Giovanny Alvarado. A soft or low-pressure garment can be used.
  • The day after surgery, you must walk in a forward-leaning position, bending your knees slightly to avoid back pain. This walking position should be maintained for three to five days, as per Dr. Alvarado’s instructions.
  • During the first 15 days after surgery, avoid wearing tight clothing such as jeans. Preferably wear skirts or dresses without belts. Use cotton underwear that does not put pressure on the abdomen.
  • Begin massages two days after surgery with the aestheticians recommended by Dr. Alvarado.
  • If you choose to have massages done by someone else, it is very important to avoid having them use compresses or devices that produce heat or cold on the abdomen, waist, or back, as this can cause severe burns due to the temporary sensitivity alteration in the abdomen.
  • It is forbidden for anyone to administer injections or use devices on the abdomen without Dr. Alvarado’s authorization. This can cause infections in the abdomen that may require hospitalization.
  • It is important to avoid staying in bed in the days following surgery. We recommend sitting up and taking five-minute walks every half hour.
  • Avoid lifting heavy objects for three months after surgery, as you have a double muscle suture that could come undone if you strain your abdomen.
  • You may start light aerobic exercises one month after surgery and all types of exercises after three months.
  • The compression garment can be worn starting on the eighth day or as instructed by Dr. Alvarado.
  • Apply a silicone band over the scar after the stitches are removed. The band should be worn during the day, underneath the compression garment.
  • We recommend undergoing a minimum of five Hyperbaric Chamber sessions, starting the day after surgery. This procedure helps deliver oxygen to the abdominal tissues, reduces inflammation, and promotes wound healing.
